In Sao Brissos, Portugal, near Santiago do Escoural, stands the small church of Nossa Senhora do Livramento. The foundation of the church stands on a dolmen dating from the New Stone Age around 4000 to 3000 BC. It is another example of a Portuguese church built on or next to a prehistoric dolmen.
The church was built around the dolmen in the 17th century and is characteristically painted white. The dolmen forms the portal or entrance hall to the church building.
