Onlangs verscheen deel 10 van de hunebeddenreisgids ‘Mythische Stenen’. Alle delen zijn verkrijgbaar in de winkel van het Hunebedcentrum of op bijvoorbeeld www.mythischestenen.nl. Deel 10 beschrijft de belangrijkste megalithische monumenten in Noord-Frankrijk, Jersey en Guernsey. In de regio Val d’Oise ligt een prachtig gerestaureerd galerijgraf. ‘Voordat we het Musée Archéologique Du Val-d’Oise bezoeken, zoeken we eerst Allée Couverte dite du Bois Couturier op. We parkeren in de berm. De gps-coördinaten leiden ons een mooie halfverharde weg op, maar na 500 meter moeten we door prikkeldraad en doornstruiken. Het gewas wordt uiteindelijk zo dicht dat we terug moeten keren naar het pad. We besluiten het pad om het bos heen te volgen en na 300 meter gaat er warempel een pad naar links. Er staat opeens, midden in het veld, ook een aanwijsbordje. Misschien hadden we het pad van de andere kant moeten benaderen. De allée couverte is in uitstekende staat, maar we mogen er niet bij: niet toegankelijk voor publiek. We mogen er alleen naar kijken. Na de graffiti in het vorige monument heb ik alle begrip voor deze waarschuwing. Voor het algemeen belang klim ik echter over het hek en maak foto’s van de binnenzijde en de twee dames die hier nog wel zichtbaar zijn op de portiekstenen. Godinnen van de Dood, aldus het informatiebord. Godinnen, ok, maar van de dood, dat waag ik te betwijfelen. Eerder godinnen van de wedergeboorte, denk ik.
Voor Allée Couverte dite du Bois Couturier 300 meter voor bebouwde kom van Guiry-en-Vexin parkeren langs de Route de Thillay. Halfverharde pad 400 meter volgen, aan einde naar rechts (!), na 300 meter eerste pad links, na 300 meter nog eens links. Het monument ligt aan een vallei.

It is difficult to park near Musée Archéologique du Val-d’Oise**** (4 Place du Château, Guiry-en-Vexin), but the area is quiet and we are able to park our camper a few hundred metres away. A friendly woman asks in French where we are from and how did we find out about the museum? I tell her Holland and the internet, and then she launches into a long explanation, of which I understand less than half. Perhaps it included the information that entry to the museum was free.
It is a nice museum with a reconstruction of the allée couverte which we saw earlier, with the original round stone with a handle which closed the opening. This is the first time that I have seen an actual keystone.
Mythische Stenen – the books
Each volume in the series offers a new perspective on a specific area of Europe and its ancient monuments, seen through the eyes of our prehistoric ancestors. Each book contains hundreds of colour photos. Apart from the first two titles, the books are only available in Dutch.
The twelve titles currently available are The Netherlands*, Germany (Lower Saxony **, Schleswig-Holstein, Jutland, Funen and Seeland, Mecklenburg-Voorpommern, Middle Germany), Sweden and Norway, Poland and Bornholm, Northern France and the Channel Islands, Brittany and England and Wales.
